Pine, stream and Prairie: Wisconsin and Minnesota in Profile

First Printing. INSCRIBED, SIGNED, and DATED on the front endpaper: "For______________-Sincerely, James Gray April 16, 1945" Remainder (approx. 90%) of poor detached DJ laid-in. "Two of the most colorful of the states-colorful scenically, politically, and as to individual citizens-are described, examined, and judged in this affectionate and evocative book. The flavor of living in Wisconsin and Minnesota owes its difference from the flavor of California or Texas or New York to the thousands of small forces and factors that Mr. Gray chooses as his materials. His narrative moves with ease and illumination from mining, hunting, and fishing to the significance of such men as the senior LaFollette, Floyd Olson, and Victor Berger; from the shores of a pine-bordered lake to Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin or the Lunts at Ten Chimneys. The resulting portrait has few rivals among American regional books for richness and variety of interest." 33 full-page, black-and-white photographic illustrations with accompanying descriptive captions plus a fold-out map frontispiece of Minnesota and Wisconsin. 312 pages. Some browning discoloration to endpapers, elsewise a bright, clean, tight, Wisconsin/Minnesota resident and/or afficionado gem! FRB4.…
