First edition. Tall octavo. 469, 3[ads] pp. Two full-page engraved plates of chemical apparatus. Original quarter cloth spine and papercovered boards, edges untrimmed, and half-title present. Ownership stamp and signature of George W. Hoffman dated in 1839. A split and light erosion on the spine, but still sound and tight, foxing on the plates, a very good copy. This volume is dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, who was the author's classmate at William and Mary. A very nice copy of a reasonably common title, but very uncommon in original boards.
