RNMV-interaction with other crops and changes in biochemical properties. 8. Executive summary. 9. Conclusion. 10. Strategic steps in need. 11. Literature cited. 12. Abbreviations. 13. Subject Index. The book describes a fact that a virus, stamped as a poisonous one, also alternatively becomes a friendly without any adverse environmental impact on crop improvement. This dual identity of the described virus has been expressed through two phylo-genetically unrelated hosts like rice and fibre crops. In one case (monocot) the virus is destructive while in other case (dicot) it is friendly in nature, i.e. improves plant growth and yield. The book contains the details of this newly appeared virus including characterization, transmissibility, effects on hosts, its passage through seeds (termed as energized seed) and the low cost production technology developed for farmers benefit for jute cultivation. The book also deals with the improvement (rather enhanced efficiently) in vascular tissue differentiation in jute leading to production of higher number of fibre bundles (upon entry of the virus into the host) indicating higher fibre production. The book exhibits the research works carried out by the author and his group to bring about this low-cost production technology with a virus (and its product, a growth hormone) for the improvement of bast fibre crops including jute and mesta, grown under different agro-ecological situations. The characterization of the newly produced cytokinin-like growth hormone in situ upon entry into the host and its application on host for improvement in growth and yield, as one of the safe uses, are also included in the book.
