A gifted draughtsman, Jaume Saint-Hilaire was introduced to this art by the famous painter Gérard van Spaendonck.This beautiful work on the plants of France is illustrated with 400 engraved plates, printed in colour à la poupée. Publication was stopped and it was ten years later that Jaume Saint-Hilaire took over this work and completed it between 1819 and 1822 with 6 additional volumes, to which was added a second printing of the first 4 volumes.A very good copy, with expertly restored bindings.
