Title stamped on spine in blue lettering. Illustrated frontispiece in color with caption. Title page bears the Little, Brown and Company colophon. Printed by The Plimpton Press, Norwood, Mass. Dedicated "To My Friend L. B. S."

Contains dramatized versions of classic folk tales and stories formatted as plays for young readers, including "The Lambikin" and others. Text is presented in dramatic script form with stage directions in brackets, designed for classroom reading and performance by second-year students. The author was a teacher in the public schools of Barre, Vermont.

This copy bears a publisher's complimentary slip pasted inside the front cover reading "With the Compliments of Little, Brown & Company" with list price of 50 cents net and quantity price of 40 cents. Handwritten ownership inscription "F. S. Root" on front pastedown, with "Private Library of F. S. Root" noted beneath the publisher's slip. Penciled numbers "445" and "8-" on the front free endpaper, likely a dealer's code.

Some wear to cloth at head and foot of spine, with light fraying at the bottom of the spine. Boards show mild soiling and light rubbing. Binding is tight and text block is clean. Pages are lightly toned, consistent with age. A solid, presentable copy of this uncommon early 20th-century school reader.
