Thompson (1859-1907), is a fascinating figure. While studying medicine he became addicted to opium and lived a destitute life on the streets of Londo, until he was "discovered" in 1888. His poetry was praised by Yeats, Browning, and Chesterton, but some have also considered him to be a suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders as well as an influence on Tolkien. Whatever!
