John Oldham (1653 - 1683) was an English satirical poet, friend and contemporary of Dryden, who specialised in imitations of the classical Satires of Juvenal. He died of smallpox at the age of only 30. This beautiful edition is from the series Bell's English Poets, published by Irish man of letters Robert Bell (1800 - 1867), believed to be from the expanded 2nd edition 1866. Edited & with an introductory memoir by Bell. Hardback cover with marbled boards, spine & corners reinforced in navy leather, red title page with gold lettering affixed to spine.
