xvi, 388 pages. Frontispiece portrait of Walter Scott. Contemporary red leather with gilt border, and gilt to spine. Professional restoration to upper hinge; new front free endpaper. The leaf of pages 327/8 has a clean slice through it and appears again (without blemish) bound with a blank between pages 386 and 387 in the Index of Subjects. Uncommon first edition of this collection that had an expanded edition in 1824. Preface signed W.C [William Clapperton]. Includes John Clare's The Summer Evening. 5.25 x 3.25 inches.
