Illustrated with 12 plates including engraved portrait frontispiece. Octavo/8vo, measures around 5 3/4" x 7 3/4" x 1 3/4". Pagination: viii, 720pp. The book is in good condition for its age. Green cloth binding, black and gilt detail tooling and blindstamping. Binding very clean, only a little marking. Colouring and detail still very vivid, only slight discolouration at edges. Some scuffing and a little puckering to cloth on rear board. Corners a little bumped and slightly torn. Page edges gilt, still quite vivid and shiny to lower and fore-edges, though with a few scuffs, while gilt edging is a bit more dulled and scuffed on upper edges but still quite clear. Some cracking to inner hinges. Preliminary leaves from front free endpaper to title page quite strained but holding. Leaves containing pages 715-718 loose. Inscriptions to front endpapers. Offsetting to title page from frontispiece. Some foxing to preliminary and hindmost pages. Occasional other marking but page surfaces are generally very clean and do not appear to contain any inscriptions, underlining, marginalia, etc. See pictures for further information. viii, 720 pp. Circa 1880.…
