Very rare first edition by renowned political philosopher William Godwin, the father of modern Anarchism, and incidentally also the father of Marry Shelley. Rebound in brown boards, a portion of the presumed original binding?s spine containing the title survives and sits between two interior pages. A bookplate from the ?Chamber of Life Insurance? is contained inside the front cover. There are several names written in an old script inside the cover, on the flyleaf, and on the title page (see photographs). Pages are clean and free from any major blemishes, save the two pages that sandwiched a portion of the original binding which has left a stamp sized brown stain on either page. Gutter is visible on both the front and end of binding but remains largely secure. Small tear at bottom of flyleaf and title page. The title page appears to have been reinforced rather neatly with binding tape. Additional photos available on request.
