The documentary My heart of Darkness (Sweden 2011) tells the story of a South-African paratrooper returning to Angola: Facing former enemies, he tries to regain mental health and reconciliation.

Several texts discuss these topics in a more general way including other films. Furthermore, some articles are devoted to the historical context, i.e. the Angolan Civil War and the aftermath of this conflict in the cultural sphere.

About the Authors

Benedikt Jager (Associate professor) teaches Nordic literature at the University of Stavanger (Norway).

Steffi Hobu� (Dr. phil.), geb. 1964, lehrt und forscht an der Leuphana Universit�t L�neburg und leitet dort das Leuphana College. Sie studierte Philosophie und Germanistik und promovierte in Philosophie an der Universit�t Bielefeld mit einer Arbeit �ber Wittgenstein. F�r ihre Lehre wurde sie 2009, 2011 und 2015 mit Preisen ausgezeichnet und war 2010 Gastprofessorin an der Karlstads Universitet, Schweden. Sie habilitiert zur Theorie der visuellen Wahrnehmung bei Platon und Aristoteles.
