The quintessential noir classic, first published in 1944 & made into the unforgettable 1946 movie starring Lana Turner & John Garfield. In 121 pages + list of other Pocket titles in rear, this is the First Mass Market Paperback edition, First printing, from Pocket Books (#443) from July 1947. Seductive "good girl" cover art unattributed, but widely acknowledged to have been drawn from a painting by Tom Dunn. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, binding strong & straight--feels never opened! Pages moderately tanned, heavier around edges, commensurate with age, but completely unmarked. Exterior wrappers are bright & clean, protected in the publisher's patented "Perma-gloss" clear acetate covering that is showing slight peeling at most corners, with large missing chip to acetate at lower-outer back corner only. .Beautifully protected i new clear mylar collector bag Free!
