Beveridge was one of the most influential Britons of the 20tyh century, forever associated with his 1944 report which laid the foundations for the Welfare State created by Labour after the war. But even in WW I, Beveridge was significant as a leading adviser to the Ministry of Munitions and then more significantly to the Ministry of Food.
