Excerpt: "On the one hand, then, this mystical attitude IS a good preparation and guide for spiritual science; on the other we have as a preparation for that medieval absorption the activity of soul with which we are to deal at greater length, and which we may call, in the true sense, prayer. Just as the mystic is enabled to attain his absorption because he has, even though unconsciously, trained his soul to have the right temper for such mysticism, so if we want to work our way to this absorption, to tread a path which shall end there, we shall find a preparation in true prayer."
