2 volumes. Tidy brown cloth with embossed border and gilt spine. Spines dulled and rubbed at head and heel. Good overall. Hinges are sound, and former owner signature is in very faint pencil. Born Favell Lee Bevan (1802-1878), Mrs. Mortimer was an English Evangelical author of educactional books for children. She was a self styled educator, whose messages and means were thought by some to be harsh and hell fire. Her famous "Peep of Day" series was immensely popular: over 500,000 copies of the original edition were issued and it was published by the Religious Tract Society in thirty-seven different dialects and languages. Ships from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
