Pride in Small Places:A Photographic Rememberance of Rural Prince Edward Island 1900-1960

In the mid 1900's there were approximately 10,000 family farms on Prince Edward Island. These are the "small places" of the title, and while few generated much in the ways of cash income, they represented a long tradition of rural intelligence and aptitude, which promoted feelings of competency and even mastery, and was the source of both identity and pride. On their small parcels most farm folk knew exactly what needed to be done, and how to do it. They were in charge. In this long-anticipated volume, Island folk historian, David Weale, has brought together a remarkable selection of over 250 black and white photographs collected over the past twenty-five years from the family albums of Islanders from every part of the province. The result is an evocative pictorial of rural society on Prince Edward Island before 1960.
