"Every attempt to abolish duelling has been, and ever will be, inefectual; the only method therefore is to point out each abuse, and to ward off, as much as possible, every evil consequence attending it: any endeavour to promote an amendment or alteration for the better, is of more utility than continuing to lament the alarming effects of this or any other custom" [Preface]. Title page and last two leaves grubby. Shallow chip to upper margin of 75 and 77, and larger chip to 79 with loss of a bracket and few words ["as to room,"] of text .
