Also Lyell's Principles were "written on the assumption that geological phenomena could be explained completely in terms of natural and knowable causes" (Dictionary of Scientific Biography VIII, 570). "Darwin, who took this work with him on the Beagle, ackknowledged his debt to it" Heralds of Science 96). Each volume with a small old stamped-in name and handwritten signature, otherwise an unusual fresh, clean and complete copy, though unfortunately newly rebound.
