William Guy contributed substantially to development of statistics in Britain. He was a leading figure in the Statistical Society of London, having served as its president in 1873-75 and longtime contributor and editor of its journal. The Guy Medal (Gold and Silver) in statistics awarded by the Royal Statistical Society are named after him. Guy was a professor of forensic medicine at Kings College, London. Lee was an American doctor who added 200 pages adapting the book for America. With the 1845 pen signature of James Beadbury, the original owner who has made some discrete pencil notations on a few of the pages. Large 8vo, 711 pp 16 pages of advertisements, full leather binding, all edges marbled, gilt title on red spine label, gilt rules. Spine a bit dry, tips cracked. Some brown spotting on lower margins throughout and spot foxing on early pages.
