Seven (of eight) inserted plates. With an inserted leaf, numbered 506*-507*, between pp.505 and 506, and a 32-page appendix of specimens of printing types at end. Many illustrations within the text. With an index. Lacking pages i-xviii, including the title-page and the engraved frontispiece of a Stanhope Press. Excellent series of type specimens from both Fry and Caslon foundries. Boards loose, lacking spine. Generally very good internally and despite being defective, still with some remarkable content. The specimens are: Fry & Steele printer's flowers (29 pages); Fry & Steele Printing Types (19 pages), and Caslon & Catherwood Printing Types (10 pages). The book itself is based on J. Smith, The Printer's Grammer, 1787.
