About this Item
47x30cm, 16pp. Photographic front cover with title printed in red, the contents printed in black with multiple type specimens, reproductions of typeset pages etc. An extremely scarce original copy of the 1922 supplement to the Manchester Guardian, regarded as a landmark of printing literature worthy of being reissued in facsimile in 1969 by the Wynkyn de Worde society. The content is effectively a resume and projection of the directions of both fine and commercial printing as the craft/trade stood in 1922, a watershed moment at the dawn of the golden age of British Monotype, partly written and designed by Morison himself near the start of his career. The advertisements alone are of great interest, including a full page from the H W Caslon type foundry. A significant document for scholars and enthusiasts of printing history, and considering its nature as an ephemeral newspaper supplement this copy is a remarkable survivor in entirely pleasing condition - not even folded. Very Good (small nicks to the edges, a 7cm tear to the edge of the final sheet but no loss). Seller Inventory # W1031
