First Edition. Title-page and 12 mounted engravings on India paper, full page frontispiece (dated 1841) opposite the title-page. 1 vols. Folio. [With] Retraite de Constantine. Engraved title-page and 6 mounted engravings on India paper. Paris: Gihaut Freres, [1837]. First Edition. Extra-illustrated with the addition of 2 full page plates at the end (dated 1841). Thes albums depict the battles of the French army against the forces of Ad el-Kader in Algeria. The engagements depicted took place in November of 1836 and October of 1837. Though not generally appreciated in his own time, Raffet was later thought to be one of France's great engravers. Beraldi saying that Raffet's was "the greatest name of the century in original prints." Atherton Curtis p. 116. Ray pp. 185-187 Bound in later three quarters red morocco over earler cloth, title in gilt on front cover. Very good Title-page and 12 mounted engravings on India paper, full page frontispiece (dated 1841) opposite the title-page. 1 vols. Folio.
