A very good copy of the first edition (1924) of Lewis Spence's well-known study of Atlantis. Spence argues that Atlantis merits investigation as a possible historical reality rather than dismissal as pure legend, drawing on comparative mythology, folklore and the scientific theories of his day. The pages are overwhelmingly clean and bright, with some tanning to the front and rear free endpapers. Page 131 has a little browning at the top and bottom, presumably from an object having been laid in the book (see photographs). The front free endpaper bears a very small signature, and the front pastedown has a small bookseller's sticker. The red boards remain clean and bright, with some light, age-related wear to the head and tail of the spine, slight corner crimping and minor general wear. The binding is excellent. All illustrations are present and correct. A very good copy, not commonly encountered in this condition. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. All images show the actual book offered for sale; we never use stock photographs. Additional photographs are available on request, and we are always happy to answer any questions.
