First appearance of Nicola Tesla's article "The Problem of Increasing Human Energy: With Special Reference to the Harnessing of the Sun's Energy" in the June issue of The Century. Six issues, May-October. viii, 960 pp. (Tesla pp. 175-211). Bound in teal cloth over half straight-grain morocco titled and ruled in gilt on spine, fore and lower edges speckled red, patterned endpapers. Very Good+ with slight lean to spine, moderate rubbing and soiling to covers, and several indentations to front and rear boards. Hinges repaired with hinge tape, scattered foxing to prelims. A solid copy. The famous treatise in which Nikola Tesla laid out his vision for renewable energy. Tesla successfully harnessed the power of Niagara Falls to bring electricity to New York City, and he had faith in the potential of wind and solar power. The Century had published a biographical sketch of Tesla in 1894 praising his "brilliant experiments of startling beauty and grandeur," and now it gave him free rein in its pages. Other contributors to this volume include Theodore Roosevelt, Andrew Carnegie, James Whitcomb Riley, Oz creator L. Frank Baum, and Paul Laurance Dunbar.
