Item description from seller

First Edition of the first volume in a series of writings on philosophy by notable late 19th century man of letters, George Henry Lewes. Also notable for a personal life more Age of Aquarius than Age of Victoria as he unabashedly co-habited with the writer George Eliot while bundled into a legal marriage -- albeit a pioneeringly open one -- with another woman. 434 pages, red cloth with gilt titles. Has a previous owner name inked on a front endpaper, light foxing and light rubbing on the spine.
