First edition. Original theatre program for a performance by Dame Edith Sitwell, printing *Facade: An Entertainment* (fifteen poems by Sitwell). Octavo. [16]pp. Stapled printed self-wrappers. The bulk of the text prints fifteen poems and lyrics by Edith Sitwell, including one previously unpublished poem, "Tarantella," plus "Programme Notes" by J. McKay Martin. Lightly rubbed, a few very faint creases on spine, small surface tear on rear cover, else a very good or better copy. According to Wikipedia: "Facade is a series of poems by Edith Sitwell. [began] in 1918, in the literary magazine 'Wheels'. In 1922-3 many of them were given an orchestral accompaniment by Sitwell's protege William Walton, and it is in this form that 'Facade' is best known. In the Sitwell-Walton 'Facade' there are several poems such as 'Through Gilded Trellises,' 'A Man from a far Country,' and 'Tarantella' (never formally published by Sitwell) that do not feature in her published edition of Facade.". J. McKay Martin, in his introductory text notes that "Tarantella" is previously "unpublished." 'Facade' was performed behind a curtain, with a hole in the mouth of a painted face, and the words were recited through the hole with the aid of a megaphone (cf wikipedia). An uncommon program.
