Item description from seller

First Edition, Proof Copy. Octavo, original printed cloth wrappers, 161 pages. "After producing a Scout Handbook during their first year of operation, the BSA began working on a Scoutmaster Handbook almost immediately. They issued about 3 separate printings of an unbound draft edition and an unbound "proof" edition in 1912 and 1913 for evaluation, then released the first official Scoutmaster Handbook edition in 1914." WorldCat lists one library holding for any of the first three proof printings, at the University of Utah. Extremely scarce title, the predecessor to the first official printing of the Handbook for Scout Masters in March of 1914 in which 10,000 copies were produced. According to a Scouting website this is the 2nd of four printings of the "proof" edition, after a first printing with 203 numbered pages. The number of copies produced for the first three proof printings are unknown. A true rarity. Very Good in cloth wrappers, some loss at top spine end.
