Elephant folio, four plates of soft ground etchings, each plate mark 11 3/4 x 17 3/4 inches (30 x 45 cm), with margins, signed in plates, dated Feb 2nd, 1801, bound in blue paper covers with paper label, some uneven toning and a few small marks, neatly inscribed with owner's name to front cover, missing one tissue guard, the remainder foxed and torn in places, the plates largely clean on mildly toned paper. The plates are Titled First to Fourth Process of Sketching although there were eight parts to this series by Laporte, each containing four plates. Provenance: Charles Scarisbrick of Scarisbrick Hall, Scarisbrick, Lancashire, (whose great collection was auctioned by Christies in May 1861) and thence by descent. This is a large folio and will attract extra postal charges. Please check with us before ordering for a quote.
