Elephant folio, four plates of soft ground etchings, each plate mark 11 3/4 x 17 3/4 inches (30 x 45 cm) with margins, signed and dated April 18, 1801, in the plate, first plate with J. Whatman 1794, watermark, tissue guards foxed and torn, plates mildly foxed and toned, lower right corner of third plate folded but not affecting image, in blue paper covers with paper label, owners name neatly inscribed on front cover, some small tears and creases to edges and some uneven toning. The plates are tilted Fifth to Eighth Process of Sketching although the series has eight parts of four plates each. Provenance: Charles Scarisbrick of Scarisbrick Hall, Scarisbrick, Lancashire, (whose great collection was auctioned by Christies in May 1861) and thence by descent. This is a large folio and will attract extra postal charges. Please check with us before ordering to obtain a quote.
