A vanishingly scarce volume on city planning for London, the first edition, illustrated with two folding plates. The first edition of this very scarce work, an important volume on the city planning on London, produced at a time when the city was growing rapidly.In particular, this work explores how to make the sites of Fleet Prison and the Farringdon Market more available, with the establishment of high level streets from Saint Paul's Churchyard, to Holborn and Fleet Street.This is the important design of 'high Holborn'.By Robert Hesketh, a fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.Collated, bound without one plate only the folding plate shown is included - however exceptionally rare in commerce and not widely institutionally held. In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Small tears to the joints, heavier to the front joint. Light marks and rubbing to the cloth. Spine is a little faded. Textblock is detached from the binding. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean, with a few scattered spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title. Folding plate to the front paste down is torn in half, with a couple of small tears to the folds. Good Only.
