First edition 1864. 8vo. 351 pp. Listing of works by Macduff and books published by James Nisbet & Co. at the end of the volume. Original, slightly rubbed, green cloth covers with gilt title and border decoration. Clean contents but with a corner tear on the titlepage (not affecting text) which presumably was to move the previous owner's name! One small section of pages in centre a little loose, otherwise a nice copy of the first edition. "The reading of this book is a moving experience. The writer s power of description can hardly be equalled. Dramatic and dynamic. First published in 1864, this work has long been a favourite among Bible students. With deft descriptions and brilliant flashes of insight into human personality, MacDuff recreates the life and times of the herdsman from Gilead. A delightful book " - C.J. Barber.
