Ex-Libris Siegfried Sassoon with his monogramed bookplate to upper pastedown. (Not listed in Keynes). Abraham Cowley (1618-1667) was an English poet born in the City of London late in 1618. He was one of the leading English poets of the 17th century. Abraham Cowley's prose works include essays like "A proposition for the advancement of experimental philosophy" and "A Discourse by way of Vision concerning the Government of Oliver Cromwell". His prose was often compiled in collections titled "Prose Works," which feature both his essays and sometimes his verse.
