About this Item

A decent hardback first edition, which has been bound in quarter vellum (with no title lettering to the spine), retaining the original eighteenth century boards. With the book plate (pictured) of T N Brushfield on the front paste-down. There is some quite noticeable foxing to the front and rear endpapers, lighter scattered foxing throughout. A portrait of the author (printed 10 years after the book's publication) has been bound in to form the frontispiece. An authentic-feeling first edition with an interesting book plate and added frontis, but with some heavy foxing at the beginning and end of the volume and no title lettering to the spine.
