First edition. Quite musty, boards soiled, otherwise a decent copy. Jacket flaps creased, writing indentations on front jacket panel, sticker on rear jacket panel. 1970 Hard Cover. xxxvi, 952 pp. A rather self-congratulatory memoir by the famous urban planner of his time in public works. Moses was the subject of Robert Caro's Pulitzer Prize winning biography The Power Broker. From the jacket: "Robert Moses has dazzled the public for the last half a century. Fiercely dedicated and almost Napoleonic in his energies, he has transformed the face of this country as perhaps no other public servant has ever done. He has been the moving force behind thousands of parks and playgrounds, highways and parkways, beaches and outdoor recreation facilities in New York City and New York State. He has also served as a consultant to many major cities ranging from Canton, Ohio, to Caracas, Venezuela. In this engrossing volume, which contains much previously unpublished material, you will get an insider's look at some of the most ambitious undertakings of our time, including the Jones Beach State Park Project, the herculean St. Lawrence Seaway and Niagara Power Projects, and scores of other endeavors. Fascinating as a chronicle of modern environmental planning, this book contains an enormous amount of useful information and practical advice about administration, public works, conservation, public utilities, public housing, and other important subjects.
