A first edition copy of this fascinating monograph on pulpits, by the renowned English cleric, activist and local historian John Charles Cox. John Charles Cox was one of the most influential English local historians of the nineteenth century, and published dozens of books; including calendars of Derby local records, a four-volume history of Derbyshire churches, and also served as the editor of the monthly antiquarian magazine, 'The Antiquary'. Complete with the uncommon unclipped dustwrapper. With an extensive publisher's catalogue to the rear of the text. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with blue stamped title to the front board and spine, and the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally lovely, with minor shelfwear to extremities and head and tail of spine. Slight fading tp spine. Prior owner's ink stamp to front free-endpaper. Dustwrapper very smart, with minor bumping to extremities and small splits to head and tail of joints. Slight fading and marking to spine of wrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean, with only the odd spot to the fore edge, only visible to textblock. Near Fine. Seller Inventory # 639M36
