Boxed set of two catalogues of Sotheby's sales of October 7, 2006, focused on the arts of the Ming Dynasty. 'Visions of Enlightenment: The Speelman Collection of Important Early Ming Buddhist Bronzes' includes a superb group of fifteen Imperial gilt-bronze Buddhist sculptures assembled over a three decade period by renowned London art dealers Alfred Speelman and his son Jules. All of the objects in the sale are examples of the pinnacle of Sino-Tibetan Buddhist sculpture of the Ming period. With scholarly essay by David Weldon; all text and descriptions in bilingual English/Chinese. 136 pp., 82 col. photos including many close-up detail images and all inscriptions. The second sale, illustrated and described in 'Classicism in Continuum: The Arts of the Ming', includes 28 lots of Imperial Ming art, executed in a wide variety of material, including blue & white, doucai and wucai porcelain, lacquer, rhinoceros horn, Tianhuang stone, cloisonn?, textile and furniture. All examples are of the finest quality of their genre and many of which trace their provenance through some of the most important collections of the 20th century. Size: 28 x 22 cm.
