A very good copy, in a very good dust jacket, of the stated first printing. The pale blue cloth binding is clean and unworn, with strong black lettering to the spine. Everything is sound and tight, with square unbumped corners. The contents are clean and bright with no ownership inscriptions or other markings of any kind, other than a little corner creasing to the ffep. The striking pictorial dust jacket is neatly clipped, but is otherwise intact, showing moderate edgewear and a couple of closed tears. The white parts of the jacket are a little discoloured. It is now protected in a removable mylar cover. From the blurb: "[This novel] is a first-class novelist's account of the lusty, quarrelsome, unscrupulous, funny, pathetic, full-blooded life in a working-class rooming house. It is a shrewd and unsentimental picture of Londoners you've probably never met or read about - though they are the real English".
