Very Good/No Jacket. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Large 12mo, illustrated, 200 numbered pages plus 16 plates of drawings, and 40 pages of advertisements for other Chatto & Windus books appended. In original decorative binding, which is slightly soiled , and spine sunned, otherwise nice and tight. Pages 177-200 evidently damaged in some pyrotechnic mishap have been replaced by professionally lithographed signatures from Bayport Printing of Minnesota. Extra copies of the signatures (see second image)used in the restoration are available for inspection by sending me an SASE of 6 x 9 inches or larger. One of the classics of modern pyrotechnics, especially strong on rockets, stars, case-rolling, and garnitures. Uncommon in any of the original editions. An advertisement for "'The Secret out series'" on p. [ii] (facing title) does not include this work, but it is listed under the series in the publisher's October 1878 catalogue bound into this copy.
