Complete bound run of the Quarterly Journal of Studies on Alcohol, Volumes 1–34 (1940–1973), comprising 40 hardcover books. Several volumes include separately bound supplements and issues, accounting for the higher physical count. Founded in 1940 by Dr. Howard W. Haggard at Yale University's Laboratory of Applied Physiology, this journal is the longest-standing academic publication on substance-related topics in the United States. Published under Yale University Center of Alcohol Studies (1940–1961), then Rutgers Center of Alcohol Studies (1962–1973). This set was previously owned by a member of the Washingtonians, a 19th-century American temperance movement. Volumes bear Ex Libris markings and inscriptions consistent with institutional or personal scholarly use, adding historical provenance. Condition: Solid, well-bound volumes with tight spines. Some volumes show light staining, discoloration, or age-related wear typical of institutional or library use.
