1st Edition 1913 Queensland School Reader for Grade V; the Readers were first published in 1913 although they were'nt used in schools until 1915; the intention of the Readers was "to instil into the minds of pupils a love for literature as will last beyond school days and be to a source of permanent profit and delight" (from preface); excerpts from Ethel Turner, Cervantes, Henry Kingsley, Swift, Fenimore Cooper, Scott, Dickens, etc; b&w text and full-page illustrations, and with frontispiece plate showing the Opening of the First Federal Parliament of Australia 9th May 1901; former owner's inscription to front pastedown, tape re-inforcement to endpapers front and rear, foxing to endpaperse, prelims, and text block, occasional lighter foxing and stains in text, prominent offset to pgs 186/187, o.w. Good; boards rubbed and scuffed, and with worn patches, minor insect damage to head of spine. . 319pp. 12mo. Good.
