First French Wartime Edition . A terrific anthology of Churchill's essays and magazine articles from the 1920s and early 1930s on a wide variety of subjects, including "Painting as a Pastime." Issued in the U.S. under the title AMID THESE STORMS. This is a very good copy of the rare French wartime edition, in pictorial self-wraps. Aside for some age-darkening, throughout the contents are fine, essentially unopened, with some still-uncut pages.A first French edition was published in 1932 in conjunction with the first English edition but this wartime edition, with a publication date of 1944, is in some ways more intriguing, since Paris was liberated in August 1944.
