BOOK DESCRIPTION: 8vo, viii, 186 pgs, frontis and portrait plates; top edge gilt. Original blue cloth with gilt stamped spine; top edge gilt. Bookplate and with duplicate stamp of the Huntington Library on rear endpaper. CONDITON DESCRIPTION: Light rubbing and soiling, front cover with two small dents. Spine with very faint trace of spine numbers. Gilt bright. Interior shows evidence of bookplate removed, title-page beginning to separate, else is clean and tight. With clear mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Adams enlisted with the 19th Mass Infantry as a private and eventually promoted to captain. He fought in several major battles including Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. His actions at the Battle of Fredericksburg earned him the Medal of Honor. During the battle of Cold Harbor his entire regiment was captured. He was held in several Confederate prison camp for nine months. The narrative includes his escape and recapture before being exchanged.
