Neatly extracted from a bound volume and expertly mended. This Act repealed the law which had made it a felony to create gold and silver by means of alchemy. It also brought an end to the monopolies of the Society of Mines Royal and the Company of Mineral and Battery Works which had enjoyed exclusive rights to extract metals from certain mining operations. By this Act, subjects were allowed to melt and refine metals and ores, and extract gold and silver from them, on the condition that the precious metals be taken to the mint and converted to money.
