Reviews
PreS Up The bubbling joie de vivre of Raffi's renditions of original and traditional songs is now made available in written form. Each volume includes music, text, and chord changes for three albums. Raffi Singable Songbook has an index by album, suggested songs for beginning players, and guitar and ukelele chords. The 2nd Raffi Songbook uses one comprehensive index, omits ukelele fingerings, and includes suggestions for rhythm instruments. The first book's appearance is enhanced tremendously by the addition of paintings and drawings by Canadian children. The second book, in spite of attractive borders and headings, is comparatively dull visually. Musical arrangements are simple, considering the often complex rhythms employed. These songs, in transcription as well as in recording, bring out the child in singers and listeners of all ages. There are silly songs, spiritual songs, curious songs, companionable songs, instructive songs, and songs of other cultures. All make a joyful noise. Having them in book form is a boon for piano students, preschool teachers, and parentsnot to mention story time presenters. Dana Whitney Pinizzotto, Dallas Public Library
