VG orig. red cloth in sl. edgeworn dj. xiv, [1], 336 p.; 26 illus.; 24 cm. Francois-Vincent Raspail, 1794-1878. Draws on unpubl. autobiographical fragment 1794-1835 From the jacket flap: "I have read Dora B. Weiner's book on Raspail, the first serious biography of this great man in any language, with great profit and interest. Dr. Weiner has told the story of this most important "outsider" in French politics, science and medicine between 1820 and 1870 with great skill, industry and intelligence. The central problem of Raspail, the problem of the scientist engaged in liberal politics, transcends French history."--Erwin H. Ackerknecht, M.D., Medizinhistorisches Institut, Zurich. -- His treatise, Nouveau systeme de chimie organique, was placed on the Index librorum prohibitorum in 1833. 1st edition. Binding is Hardcover.
