Landscape 4to. Limited edition. One of seven hundred and fifty copies. Original blue cloth, gilt, with a printed label to the upper board. Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white. A tiny mark at the foot of the spine and some very light dust-soiling. Loosely inserted is the original prospectus, a note about the change of address of The Fleece Press and, on the reverse of a spare label (as used on the front board), Christmas wishes from Simon Lawrence. Near fine. 'Over a short period of thirty-six months of the war, until he was tragically lost in Iceland during September 1942, Ravilious made well over a hundred watercolour paintings of British military subjects, with a number of fine lithographs of submarine interiors.' The artwork is beautifully reproduced and is accompanied by over 280 personal letters, diary excerpts and official memos. A lovely copy of a definitive work. From the library of John Commander (1927-2021), designer, lithographer and publisher.
