This is a collection of poems and prose written by people in mental institutions in the United States, Switzerland, England, Austria, Germany, and France. Just as mental illness defies stereotypes and categories, these works run the gamut from very good to very perplexing. Some writings, like "Going Crazy" and "Schizo," reflect the pain and frustration of finding answers to illness. Others, like "Sequels to Lolita" and "Good Schizophrenic Bad Schizophrenic," are ironically funny. Some are very strange. This is what poetic expression is all about. Equally intriguing are the brief biographies of the poets. Recommended for psychology collections.
