This work depicts the rise of Bernard Middleton, from being a teenager working for the British Library's bindery, to becoming one of the world's leading book restorers and binding scholars. Middleton lived from 1924 until 2019. This work was originally published as a fine press book. This edition has an expanded text with many additional illustrations. With 46 colour illustrations and 34 in black and white. With 28 photographs and many further vignettes throughout and appendices to the rear.
