2 volume set. 363 + 462 p. Bound in publisher's red cloth with Sutherland Highlanders crest on front boards. Hardcover. Mylar jacket. Good bindings and covers. Minor shelf wear. Vol. 1 cocked, hinges repaired. Black end pages. Munro graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1844 and entered the Army Medical Department, being gazetted to the 91st Argyllshire Regiment, then posted in South Africa, service in the War of the Axe 1846-7, he "gives and interesting account of the Kaffir tribes under the chiefs Sandili, Makoma, and Kreli" (Mendelssohn). Transferred to the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders, Crimea 1854-5, Indian Mutiny 1857, Euzofzai Field Force 1863. The second volume is largely comprised on Munro's Mutiny experiences in Lucknow, Rohilcund, and Oudh. "Straightforward account of personal experiences, crowded with detail" (Ladendorf).
