Discusses improving product quality and work flow in a company through reengineering, and effecting change with such tools as e-mail, multimedia, and expert systems
Reviews:
Currid (Computing Strategies for Reengineering Your Organization, LJ 2/15/94) sheds more light upon reengineering, which we first encountered in Michael Hammer and James Champy's popular Reengineering the Corporation (HarperBusiness, 1993), by giving us some nitty-gritty, how-to advice and suggestions. More than just downsizing or labor-force reduction, reengineering calls for the reinvention of the wheel, with the desired outcome being radically more production with significantly fewer resources. Currid explains various applications in information technology, including electronic mail, groupware, expert systems, and wireless communication. However, she tends to oversimplify the concepts and downplays the need for retraining workers. At times, this book resembles a glossary of terms. Order it if you already have Hammer and Champy's work; it can provide some details.
